The patio at Earls King St in Toronto is a striking, design forward environment.
New Format was commissioned to build and install the patio screen system—the goal was to create a sculptural feature piece, that fulfilled the functional barrier and entry/exit requirements, and created the trellis structure for a living wall to enclose the patio in the spring and summer months. The challenge was to design in a way that the entire system could be shipped from Vancouver to Toronto in modular units and be rapidly installed by a local team, with enough flexibility to account for site conditions, and while remaining true to the design intent.
