Borrowed Forms Credenza in WL Design 25

We are proud to be among the winners of the inaugural Western Living Design 25 competition. The awards honour some of the best Canadian designers across many mediums.

Our winning design is the Borrowed Forms Credenza, a special piece which is the result of dozens of trips to forage for suitable stone formations in the Pacific Northwest. Rocks are selected for form and texture, and their impressions are captured in poured jeweler’s wax. These are quilted together to form a tapestry of textures, before being lost wax cast in solid bronze to form the fronts of the credenza.

Froe Table

We are pleased to present the Froe Table. This piece is hand crafted from copper with a torch fired glass enamel finish. No two shingles are created alikeas the heat fuses the glass to the metal, and the glass and copper meld into one finishdurable and smooth, insulating the cool metal and providing a dappled surface reactive to the touch.

Small Victory Brentwood

The elegant new Small Victory cafe space designed by &Daughters was featured in the design section of the Vancouver Sun. New Format created a special finish for the custom bronze interior elements using spent coffee grounds saved from their other locations, reflecting the cafe’s own makings as part of the architecture. The use of coffee and wheat as design elements complement the harder edges of the concrete and gray stone, and serve to tell the story of the place.

Custom Modbar Espresso Taps

This collaboration for Small Victory Cafe was featured on the Modbar blog. We buried these Modbar taps in spent coffee grounds from other Small Victory locations to create this custom dappled finish. The result is a beautiful and functional feature that reflects the intersection of these different crafts.

Plano Wall Mirror

We are pleased to present a new addition to the Plano collection: the Plano Wall Mirror. The low-iron mirror is surrounded by hand-carved aged bronze that is formed by feel, and finished with a patina that highlights with the unique nine-sided geometry of the frame. Custom sizing is welcome.

NUVO profiled this sleek penthouse in Bjarke Ingels’ Vancouver House as its “Home of the Week.” The penthouse interior was designed by Leckie Studio and features a living space composed of rich walnut and steel finishes, a central glass terrarium with a living cedar, and beautiful stonework throughout. New Format Studio created custom blackened steel architectural elements and accents for the project, including a sculptural 2,000-pound shelving unit that floats effortlessly above the marble kitchen island.

Wish Dry Bar

The beautiful new Wish Dry Bar space, designed by Peter Wilds, was featured in the weekend edition of the Vancouver Sun. These brass details, alongside lighting by Matthew McCormick, are a connecting thread between the different spaces within the salon.

Small Victory Brentwood

New Format has been commissioned to create the new Small Victory bakery in Vancouver, Canada. Designed by local firm &Daughters, the raw palette of the space is preserved and elevated with purposeful use of fine materials.
