Simcic Uhrich Architects’ design for the Vancouver restaurant Juniper challenges traditional ideas of material usage and construction techniques.
Working almost exclusively in oil–finished black steel, New Format handled the metal fabrication and design execution from start to finish, building elements for every room in the restaurant, including a staircase and landing, guardrails, bench seating, walls, lighting, table bases, and shelving, all the way to the custom formed coat hooks underneath the bar. Much of the work had to be completed on site due to design and access constraints—necessitating creative solutions.
